Hay! you may be right. I was thinking (I'm no expert) that with a weak currency, goods will be less expensive, exports will increase, usage of raw materials will increase. Not only automobiles but every export business in Asia, including electronic equipment will demand more metals. I found a site on the net that charts metal usage by country with some projections to year 2002. Will revisit and post.
