The Republican Party, for a hundred years has been the party of big business and the rich. And the Democratic Party has been the party of the worker, poor and needy. Put simply, the reason that the Republicans try to turn everything over to the market is because by putting things like prisons and healthcare and schools in the market, they do not have to pay as highest taxes and they can make a profit off of it. E.g. repeal of ACA would have been a huge tax cut for the rich. At the expense of the poor and needy. But certain things like prisons and healthcare and schools should be run and regulated by the democracy as a whole, not by private business. A first priority of society is to protect its citizens, when society puts a person in prison, they need to be responsible for that person. Not turn them over to some private organization that may abuse them. The same is true with healthcare. Society does a better job, because their only interest is in the welfare of the individual, whereas the healthcare business's only interest is in making a profit. Besides that, when you come to certain types of people that are ill or aged, insurance companies do not want to ensure them and so they become the collective responsibility of the society. That's why I have been a Democrat my entire life and why old people, the poor and needy should vote straight Democratic ticket every time they get into a voting booth. And so Democrats apply modern social science to social structure and Republicans just pull it out of their ass and Milton Friedman and Ayn Rand's crazy ideas.
