Not an unqualified success by any stretch of the imagination. Now we're into Reregulation Act II and things are not looking all that good for Joe Consumer, IMO.

Sound like an interesting thing to read. I've to get a hard copy. The online version does not have an op ed page. About your itemized list, may I suggest to add one more item:

Own up one's mishaps early and cut losses quickly as the US did with its S&L mess.

Thanks for the thoughtful examples as answers to my query. To paraphrase a recent post, the only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history. The earliest reference I know of to that truism is in Ecclesiastes.
