Right, Gene. Competing hard is one thing. Essentially destroying a nascent technology is something else. There were three competitors in the field, Microsoft bought up one of them and destroyed the other two, and made sure that the sole survivor survived only for Windows. Is this rational economics? Is this technically wise? Is this the world you want to live in? This is Microsoft. Typical Microsoft business tactics, as you say. IBM got taken to the cleaners for much less, but Reg will tell you those guys were dolts.
