In the case of AVNT, it means that the technology was stolen before the principals left their former company. Like, we stole this technology in advance of leaving Cadence.

I doubt if it is significant. The products that sell for
the most $$$'s are Place&Route (like Aquarius from AVNT
or Silicon Ensemble from CDN) and Verification (like
Hercules from AVNT or Dracula from CDN). Star-Time,
real or not, will not generate a lot of revenue,
advanced technology or not.
