Vietnam labels Taiwan drills on disputed island 'serious violation' | ReutersVietnam on Thursday denounced Taiwan's military drills on and around a disputed South China Sea island, labeling them a serious violation of its sovereignty and a threat to maritime security.

China claims most of the energy-rich waters through which about $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year. Neighbors Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam also have claims.

Taiwan's claim to Itu Aba is complicated by the fact that China considers Taiwan sovereign territory. Taiwan and China both claim the South China Sea using old maps that date back to the late 1940s when the Nationalists ruled China.

The defeated Nationalists fled to Taiwan in 1949 after losing to Mao Zedong’s Communists. Taiwan has been self-ruled ever since.

Taiwan's coast guard said that the live-fire drills around Itu Aba were routine. The scheduled drills began on Wednesday and end on Friday.

Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh said the drills were "a serious violation of Vietnam's sovereignty over the (Spratly) archipelago, threatening peace, stability, and maritime safety and security, stressing and complicating the situation in the East Sea (South China Sea)."

"Vietnam resolutely opposes (the drills) and asks Taiwan to not repeat similar actions," Binh said in a statement posted on the ministry website.

Shortened C&P

a dictatorship run by the People's Congress and the leaders means laws and how things are done can be changed very quickly.

A tremendous advantage in moving forward the wellbeing of a country. Over rides the voice of those who are against change of any kind. Allows for squashing disruptive and destructive protesting. Allows for the focus of a given agenda not to be derailed by a different person every four years making false promises to the naive.

It is one of the reasons Canadian governments can make the changes they do without massive opposition like the US. Canada is a system of 4 year periods of elected dictatorship. Justin Trudeau in his campaign said he would change the system. Once elected decided not to as he realized it had many benefits.

The concept that the Crown or the government had to pay you for land, "Eminent Domain" which required appraised value be paid., land was given in perpetuity.

The notion that residents of any country own land or can buy land is false. No one actually owns any property.
What they have is contractual rights to dwell on, manage and make rental payment which is to be increased if designated lands rises in value by efforts of the grantee or any other event either natural or unnatural. And they have the right to sell and transfer the agreement to a third party for an agreed upon fee.

It forever belongs to the state which will collect the rent in perpetuity. (Property Tax) Failure by the Grantee to remit said fees to the Grantor results in breach of contract. All rights of the grantee are extinguished resulting in the property being returned to the State

There for true "Eminent Domain" actually only belongs to the state. On behalf of the Grantee it only exists as long as the (rent Taxes) are current ?
