1/8/98 Dec. same store sales rise 2.4 per cent.

CANTON, Mass., Jan 8 (Reuters) - Hills Stores Co said
Thursday comparable store sales for the five-week period ended
Jan 3, 1998 increased by 2.4 percent over last year.
Total sales for the period were $324.3 million, a decrease
of 2.7 percent.
The decrease in total sales was due to the company
operating ten fewer stores than the prior year, Hills said in a
statement.
