If I install a new operating system, will the programs that I currently have on my pc still be there or will I have to reinstall everything? If you do an "Upgrade" type of installation, the data and programs that are compatible with the new system will be carried forward. If you do a "Clean" installation, nothing from your previous system will remain. The choices look stark, but there's another alternative. . . Install a new "Clean" system on your computer configured to become a second operating system with the option of letting you select which one to use when your system boots. The advantage(s) to this is that you'll discover if and where the new system falls short of your expectations, and if you uncover an insurmountable issue, you can easily revert to your previous system. Unfortunately, this option does NOT enjoy the ease and support that accompanies the first two choices, so if you decide it's right for you, it may be a good idea to get assistance from someone comfortable with this work. Another, and maybe easier, choice would be to purchase a new disk and install your new system on it. If you find yourself confronted with an unmanageable disaster, you can always pop the old disk back into your system. (Disks are really easy to change.) Cheers, PW.
