Gold Soars After U.S. Launches Military Strikes Against Assad Airbase in Syria

Gold prices jumped above key levels following U.S. military strikes against a Syrian airbase controlled by President Bashar al-Assad.

Spot gold prices rose 1.23% to trade above the key $1,261.70 level at $1266.10.

U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Thursday, saying that he ordered a targeted military strike against an airfield in Syria that was used to launch a deadly chemical attack earlier this week.

U.S. Navy warships in the Mediterranean Sea launched an estimated 50 Tomahawk missiles against the Syrian airbase in Homs controlled by President Bashar al-Assad, Reuters quoted a U.S. official as saying.
