S.I. turned thousands of identities over to the SEC, not just mine. And no, under the law back then it wasn't illegal. Intrusive, draconian yes, illegal no. But the SEC should not have that much legal authority to vacuum up the names of thousands of innocent message board posters.

Do you think this is an abuse of power?

Neolib, these subpoenas were issued by the SEC without oversight by a judge or grand jury. The power tripping attorneys at the SEC can unmask your name, place you under investigation and you would will never know it unless you found out by chance like I did. Just for posting on a message board that happened to be under SEC investigation. Bill Clinton was president during the period I and many thousands here on S.I. were officially placed under investigation.

I thought you liberal types were against government agencies trampling over your constitutional rights. If this abusive practise doesn't bother you then you are neither a liberal nor or a true American.
