Somebody asked about cable modem few days ago. From what I have read these couple days, sounds like cable modem will be BIG this year due to the MCNS standard. Here is an article about cable modem :

"Once the standards are solid, and different types of standards-based
equipment work together smoothly, cable operators will feel confident enough
to make mass investments in cable modem technology, vendors said. What's
more, cable modem installation should soon become much easier.

All of this progress could add up to big sales of cable modems in the next few
years, especially as experienced consumer players such as Toshiba enter the
ring, vendors said."

"3Com, which is now supplying equipment to a few cable operators deploying
in mid-1998, is beginning consumer distribution of cable modems by seeding
the small retail stores in regions served by those operators. Such
"micro-retailing" is the first step which inevitably leads toward the Radio
Shack and Best Buys of the world, executives said."
