Lots of noise, damn little signal other than almost standard diplomacy. Very odd indeed...

The Establishment is probably very disappointed in the Trumpster, and even shocked and bummed at his relatively sane response in Syria. At least they can point in horror and disgust at the deaths from some kind of gas, so it isn't a total loss in creating more upset. /sarc
