Yes, I thought for sure the young one that had the revelation was going to pull out her Smith & Wesson and give the definitive answer on Trivia Night. I think I read that the one that "shoved" herself into the melee had childhood memories of her mother being abused in the book. I don't think they brought that up in the show. I re-watched the final 10 minutes and it is very interesting to see the facial expressions of everyone involved as the scene unfolds, especially the one that did the final deed. BTW, seems to be some debate about what gave him a pain in the neck? I tried freeze framing it but still can't tell.
