Billy - you said you were reserving judgement on NetMagnet for a while. Have you done any more thinking about it? Anybody else beta-testing?

I've reported a few bugs and exchanged some email with one of their QA techs, who seems to know what he is doing. There are a few fairly major issues I've noticed, but if those are fixed it looks to be an okay product. I also provided them with some excellent recommendations on how to improve the functionality of NetMagnet in order to make it a useful tool. I believe that with a few more features and several bug fixes, it could be a good product.

So, there's my thoughts. Anyone else want to comment?

PS - Here's what the guy from Peak told me about my problems getting current data from Silicon Investor.

-----------------------------------------------
I am very surprised that even after doing all of these things you
were unable to load a fresh page, although I am not surprized that
the PageFolio is unable to refresh pages on the Silicon Investor
site. The problem is that Silicon Investor is password protected so
the PageFolio cannot reach the pages to update them.
On sites that update frequently like Silicon Investor, I recommend
that you pause the NetMagnet cache. When you do that new pages are
loaded from the web rather than the NetMaget cache. Also, the new
pages are loaded into the NetMagnet cache so that if you later want
to view the page quickly you can pull it from NetMagnet.
To pause the NetMagnet cache:
1. Click on the 'Pause' (| |) button on the NetMagnet button bar.
2. Select 'Cache Off'.
3. Click on 'OK' to save the change.
Now new pages will be directly loaded from the web.
When you leave Silicon Investor, set the cache back to 'Cache On' for
normal usage.
-----------------------------------------------

So I tried this, and it works. It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but at least it works. My best suggestion to them was to add a feature to allow you to specify web sites that you specifically don't want cached, for example, anything in the "techstocks.com" or "exchange2000.com" domains could be excluded from caching altogether. Then, of course, none of the benefits of this software could be used at these sites, but it wouldn't take six extra clicks of a mouse just to load a fresh page. That's gotta be worth a cool camera, don't you think?
