Isn't Creative now in bed with 3D Labs? They are using the Permedia-2 (supposedly targeted at OpenGL applications) for a mainstream graphics board (probably replacing the Cirrus board they had planned). Creative has also been acting as if their audio market share is under threat, they recently bought Opti's audio division and they also bought Ensoniq. What kind of deal are you talking about?

I have followed up on my info, and this is what I have found. On the stock buy back program, I spoke to 2 people with very close ties to S3 management. One told me that a stock buy back would never happen, having been voted down twice by the board, the other told me the stock buy back is in the works and maybe announced as soon as after this Q eps. So it would seem that we can take our pick here.

As for the purchase of a graphic company, both of these people told me that S3 will be buying a company soon. I don't have any other info that I'm comfortable posting at this time.
