It also says that it is nearly impossible to stop . If this is true then why worry about it? Plans should be made for that eventuality. The 150 million people who live within three feet of sea level are just going to have to adapt. An optimal time should be determined to sell ocean front property. Those affected will have to deal with the enormous social and economic consequences. Perhaps before Al Gore dies he could leave estimates as to when that time would arrive from a scientific vantage point. I am sure he would want his heirs to salvage the best price for his 10 million dollar beach front villa. All beach front property should be evaluated and priced based on the time remaining before they will be underwater. This no doubt will be a booming industry for some scientist who can estimate the lands longevity from a scientific vantage point . "Greenland ice is a great analogy for the Earth’s climate. It has inertia, meaning it acts slowly but once it gets going, it’s hard to stop. When the Greenland ice sheet starts to go, it may take a while to melt but it is nearly impossible to stop. Predicting how fast this melt will take is interesting from a scientific vantage point but there are also enormous social and economic consequences. Right now, 150 million people live within a meter (3 feet) of today’s sea level." I find this statement made by this scientist confusing, "when the Greenland ice sheet starts to go" . Has it not started to go yet? If it has not started to go, when can we expect it to start to go? It will be near impossible to estimate when it will be gone along with all the land within three feet of sea level throughout the world if we do not know when it will start to go. Another thought is that if it has not started to go, how do we know it will start to go? Another question is that when it is gone, what will be left? Will Greenland truly become a green land? Since the great melting will cause the United States to lose so much of its coastal land mass and the eventual displacement of millions of people perhaps it would be prudent for the United States to acquire Greenland. Scientist, from their "scientific vantage point" could help give the approximate optimal time to begin the acquisition of Greenland. So much to do and so little time to do it. Maybe! Quote: Greenland ice is melting fast, and could potentially cause many meters of sea level rise. Does "could potentially" mean you do not know for certain? Does "many meters" mean a rise of more than three feet? Does "many meters" mean as many as five meters? That would would be near 15 feet of rise in the oceans. Whoa!! And all this long before 100 years from now.Greenland by itself has enough ice to cause many meters of sea level rise. If you live near the coast, the question of “when” is really important. This paper suggests that “when” may be sooner than we hoped.Wait a minute!!! Does calling this a "paper" give it more credibility?? Is this another con job???? This is getting pretty mind boggling. It is a good thing it is all Bull Dung. Whew! You had me worried there for a minute. LOL
