Yes, I think I know exactly what needs to be done, but there is virtually no talk about it and that is a shame as it is the only answer I see.

The increased efficiency with which technological innovations have given us towards productivity is going to continue. Look at retail job loses out today. There is no turning it around and it goes beyond robots, to buying on the Internet instead of from your local store.

The secret to understanding this problem and coming up with a solution is thinking of the country as a large tribe i.e. we're all in this together. And we need to keep the tribe strong which means we need to turn the vast increasing income inequality around so that there is more income "equality".

The only way that can be done is with a redistribution of money i.e. the increased gains that technology has given our society must be distributed more fairly among the citizens. A start can be tax reform which is les regressive and things like raising minimum wages.

And that issue will be the main difference between the Republicans and the Democrats. The Democrats will see our country as a society that needs to be reformed so that we have a larger middle-class again and less poverty.

The reason for that is that they understand that is not only in the best interest of the individual, it is in the best interest of the society as a whole.

But that is a concept that the Republicans will never come to understand, because they have hitched their wagon to the simplistic and wrong idea unrestricted capitalism can is all a society needs.

I wonder whether you have done much thinking on the subject of automation and robotics with respect to the near term, intermediate, and long term economic and resultant social consequences?

I'm thinking maybe over the next 15, 25 and 35 year horizons? How do you see these changes affecting the lives of ordinary people, their wealth and status?

You got any thinking on this?
