Are local elections where you are influenced by parties? That isn't true in most of the country. Especially in smaller towns. Local politics usually don't work that way. At the state level, things are different. Again, 2010 was a wave election. Republicans came to power in many states that previously they didn't. ALEC and other groups had refined their computer programs to optimize "cracking and stacking". So they were able to make sure those states stayed Republican. It is no accident that if a state swings Republican, there is a sudden flood of voter suppression measures. Oddly enough, if you discourage voters, they are less likely to vote.

Look at Texas, for example. Their redistricting plan has been halted by the courts because of "cracking and stacking". Likewise, their voter ID law. Wonder why? Because more and more people lean Democratic. Even without the demographic changes. The only larger city that is a Republican stronghold is Fort Worth. Given how military contractors dominate there, it isn't a huge surprise. We also have a very low voter participation rate. Which is a big reason why Republicans win.

Texas politics actually had a leftist lean until the Boom Times. We got a big influx of evangelicals, not really a Texas thing historically, and they tilted the politics to the Right.

Uh no. The Republicans want those hearings. There is little sign their constituents want them. You are making that part up.
