I posted the cost findings of two representative insurers. It couldn't be any more clear: Medical care in ERs costs somewhere between 3 and 6 times the cost of medical care in clinics. I have just reviewed this thread and I don't see any post. Perhaps you could post a link. One's first question in response to your comment is, "WHOSE cost?" The patient's? The hospital's? The insurance company's? The follow up is, "How is the cost determined by that entity? Are we talking before or after writedowns and discounts? >> Do you think a facility that is staffed 24/7/365 will have the same overhead as a facility staffed 8 to 5, 6 days a week? No, but we're not talking about the fully absorbed cost to the facility, last I checked. I think what may be happening here is that you are conflating several of the myriad different types of costs and trying to form them into some kind of amalgam. You can't do that and end up with a sensible result. Maybe if you post the comments where the insurance company was bitching about the cost of health care I could get to the point and help you understand it. If that's not really what we're trying to do this may be a kind of waste of time for both of us. In health care, the number of different concepts of cost is astounding.
