You did not misunderstand, I do think the present income inequality is untenable because it is destroying our society and causing massive misery and something needs to be done e.g. a new progressive tax structure and social programs to aid the poor e.g. free education would be #1 on my list. That is also redistribution of income.

Joe Stiglitz the #1 referenced economist in the world just wrote a book on how destructive income inequality is to society.

I have given this issue a lot of thought. Three primary problems contributing to the above are:

1) Control of our society by the plutocrats that have the power to steal the nations resources from the rest of us (e.g. tax breaks for the rich), and the poor.

2) The demise of unions.

3) Technology replacing workers.

So society needs to pass laws that will even the playing field.

What makes the Nordic societies so superior to ours in every respect is that all of them have a large prosperous middle class, we don't.
