That's not at all what I said. I said if we tax them at the rates you are alluding to over time the amount we can collect from them will reduce. The honest answer to what you want to achieve is we have to tax everyone at a higher rate for it to be sustainable. Its one thing to promise voters they can have 'free' stuff and its another when they realize it cost something. For example my ex-wife voted for an education bond that was paid for by property taxes. She voted yes as she thought she doesn't earn enough for it to impact her. Well guess what, her rent went up by the exact amount that her landlords taxes went up. She learned a lesson that nothing is free.
