Never had a external portable Seagate drive fail on me. I have 6 I own and 2 are too small for my needs now.

Are you sure WD makes then with their components?:

rather than Western Digital who actually manufactured the drive
If you read the rankings of server drive failures you will see HGST is better than WD. When I spoke to someone from HGST a couple years ago, when you could talk to a human, they said HGST drives were made with Hitachi components.
