Doubtful that it's a scam. More likely a straightforward joke. Was it 1 April?

Sometimes it's fun to see just how credulous people can be. People who are scientifically illiterate have no way of knowing such things are just a joke or scam. Such as the CO2 scam that has been running for a third of a century now with true believers continuing to believe as fervently as ever.
