The positive one is the principal square root.

The symbol is v which always means the positive square root.

Example: v36 = 6 (because 6 x 6 = 36)

This is how my math books from senior high school and college on my way to my M.SC.EE all defined it.
I really don't take Wiki seriously in this department.
