Looks like most of the decrease in earnings came in Carters days.

There certainly are ways to change the 'buy stuff' economy. Getting away from the world trade mentality cheaper the better will help - so will a consumption tax like a VAT or a sales tax of some kind. ..........Just because - "it's ugly, stupid and crass" - doesn't mean it necessarily has to remain that way.
