But they are slow there.



Polar bears aren't slower on land than other bears, they can and do survive on land, killing prey there. Their coloration, normal high fat sea mammal diet, and hibernation habits differentiate them and give them an advantage on ice.

Could they live totally off ice? Probably. Though their coloration would disadvantage them hunting during the summer. And they'd need to start hibernating during the winter like other bears. Only pregnant female polar bears hibernate currently.
