NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Hambrecht & Quist Inc. downgraded Forte Software Inc.
(FRTE) to hold from buy.
In a research note, the firm cited Forte's announcement that it expects to
post third-quarter results below analysts' expectations.
As reported Monday, Forte said it expects to take a third-quarter loss of
between 25 cents and 32 cents a share. The company cited delays in completing
sales in North America, since information technology companies focused on year
2000 issues. Lower revenue from Asia was also a factor, Forte said.
A First Call Inc. survey of five analysts had estimated the network software
company would report a loss of 1 cent a share for its third quarter, which
ended Dec. 31.
Hambrecht & Quist also lowered its earnings estimates for Forte to a loss of
75 cents a share from a loss of 17 cents a share in fiscal 1998, and to a loss
of 60 cents a share from earnings of 33 cents a share in fiscal 1999. Forte's
fiscal year ends in March.
