For the home pc to penetrate the 80/90 percent level, I'm guessing that the pc price point has to be around $500 present dollars. At $500 there is not too much left for software.

I think MSFT charges $75 per support incident for consumer type software. It's $95 per support incident for normal software.

The new model for MSFT may be to give away the software for free and make money on the bugs.
