Carmine -- 1998 does not look bad for all drillers. Quite the contrary. What looks bad is today and yesterday. Heaven only knows what will happen tmw or the next day. The stock market can change sentiment faster than I can eat a slice of Chocolate pie.

What you see as bad news today can evaporate in a heartbeat tmw.

But the money these companies are making NOW will not evaporate. And that is what folks here are counting on -- cash in the bank.

Yes, there are trends that can not be ignored. But I think, correct me if I am wrong, you are basing your negative 1998 view on things other than current trading trends. You are making a leap to predict oil prices -- which no one on earth can do -- and then directly co-relating that guess with the performance of the drillers.

If you can make such a string of predictions and do it more than once you will be the richest person on earth.

Truth is no one knows what will happen tmw. Not me, and not you. The only thing I know is that this group of companies is making a shit load of money NOW and for the forseeable future. That is the extent of my knowledge and soothsaying.

Obviously a lot of people agree with you today -- all the sellers. But tmw they may agree with me. At least I hope so :)

I would bet almost any amount of money that this sector will be considerably higher come 12/31/98. Come to think of it that's exactly what I am doing by owning these stocks...right?

Do you have the same conviction to your prediction of demise? Are you short a shit load of these stocks and willing to hold the course till the end of the year with that postion. I bet not.

Bears and Bulls do a market make though. Thanks for your participation.
