If we have the votes next term, we should cut PR loose.
I'm surprised the Dems haven't put a push on to make PR a State. It'd be a solidly Dem voting bloc.

It would need to be done with zero advance notice. They are US citizens, and with any kind of transition period many would come to US. I don't see a feasible approach that doesn't add 2M dem voters.

China seems to be ready for World War III if Taiwan declares independence [which they are]. Lindy says Puerto Rico should go their own way. Mq says go their own way too. Then they can ditch the debts and start afresh, deciding things for themselves. <<

Puerto Rico’s Broken Promise

The cash-strapped, debt-laden island takes one step closer to bankruptcy.

But I guess the Puerto Ricans prefer to be part of the USA. We have PR friends who would NOT have wanted to be stuck on a tropical island. He was an engineer for a multinational who we met while he was working in Antwerp [late 1980s]. Now that I think of it, we have a daughter named Anita, after a Puerto Rican [actor] of West Side Story fame. Opportunities are in USA more than PR. Having an immigration barrier would be very annoying.

China is also laying claim to islands that are barely islands. Maybe they'd like to expand even further afield.

Maybe China will do a deal with an independent Puerto Rico to establish some Made in China facilities in the Atlantic ocean. Surrounding USA like USA has surrounded China [and Russia] [and Iran].
