On your comment about contradictory words/expressions:I am reminded of Hegel, who raved about what a wonderful language for philosophy German was, because it had so many words that had absolutely diametrically opposed meanings (you will recall Hegel was into dialectics/the reconciliation of opposites). His favorite such word, if I remember correctly, was aufheben.

As for me, I never had a tougher time with a foreign language than with German, for precisely the reason that Hegel praised it so.
