Sweden has a 25% VAT and a 56% maximum marginal income tax rate

Sweden's tax revenue is 45% of GDP, in the USA it's about 26%

Clearly there's room for higher taxes in the USA, particularly on the wealthy. Higher taxes and less corporate welfare (esp. to military industries) would balance the budget.

Finally, subsidizing exit industries like coal and oil is counterproductive. The US would do best by promoting nascent industries, such as electric vehicles, renewable energy and IT.

Well, Pelosi all but agreed to 22% corporate income tax. You know, we don't want to be TOO attractive to business (I see no reason for a corporate income tax at all. Apple's got $250 Billion overseas and I want it ALL repatriated!)

We do it all the time. If they don't want to b e punished, they should break the law.

"Do we really need to tax those, who already did pay their fair amount of taxes and then passed away?"
Yes; they've forgotten you can't take it with you, and this is our way of reminding them.

How about this for a starter?
