Having worked at DEC during some of their bad quarters I never remember seeing a pre-announcement. I ran a search using AltaVista and did not find a single pre-announcement press release. I reviewed every press release I could find and could not find a pre-announcement. Therefore my conclusion is that DEC does not pre-announce.

I am thinking of making a large "BET" by shorting DEC if DEC gets above $40.

IMO there is nothing left at DEC. DEC is out of the database software business, they are out of the application software business, they just sold the networking businses to Cabletron at fire sale prices, their PC business is not even on the radar screen. For all of their claims about Aplha processor speed the box does not sell like it should.

Their WindowsNT business is strong but the margins in that business are terrible...same with the services business.

Revenue growth has slowed over the last few quarters.

On the positive side getting out of the Alpha fab was a good move and they now have a boatload of cash.

IMO DEC looks like a new version of Unisys; current stock price of Unisys is 14 5/16.

Why not DEC?
