<<i heard that the screws on the ZipT disk have recently been replaced with rivits:
Was this done to reduce the cost, or is there another reason? (The gig-o-colors i
received for Christmas has screws, when was this change made?)>>

This was discussed in today's Best of Motley Fool:

<<There was a patent discussed on the board some weeks ago that covered
the use of slotted rivets to affix the halves of a Zip disc temporarily but
firmly for media inspection. After the media passed, the temporary rivets
could be removed, and permanent rivets inserted in the same holes. This
was to take the place of screw assembly, whereby the screws had to be
removed if the media failed inspection, so that the disk halves could be
salvaged. The inventor was Japanese, a Fuji employee, I believe. Iomega
shares the patent rights with Fuji.

I believe it's true that this should affect a considerable cost savings, not
only by eliminating the time wasted in removing screws for disks that flunk
inspection, but also by using rivets for final assembly. MUCH less
time-consuming than using tiny screws for the purpose.>>
