Hi Claude,

>Does AT&T use/test orctf? It seems if Lucent is aligned with orctf .... ??<

Did you mean this to be two questions-I don't see AT&T as a big user of orcf unless/until they get more access to local loops-xDSL is still primarily a LEC/CLEC market vs an IXC product, as far as I know. Maybe in their data services/ISP business...?

I haven't heard anything about Lucent (now independent from AT&T) using Orckit stuff, and in the US that would be precluded by the Fujitsu exclusivity, wouldn't it?

AT&T .....

Hi Claude,

>>Does AT&T use/test orctf? It seems if Lucent is aligned with orctf .... ??<<

Have you heard of something?... <g>

am not familiar with any relationship between AT&T and orctf... As Geof H pointed out would think the orctf/fujitsu n. american (exclusive) relationship pretty much rules out lu/orctf for equipment in the usa... also lu and westell are working together...

Orctf's equipment is only now beginning to be trialed in the usa.. they had participated in lab trials, but weren't included in field trials because their stuff was european.... it was only recently adapted (with fnc) to american requirements

Probably orctf equipment will be included in more trials this year now that the stuff has been "americanized"...

Interestingly, one of Geof H's concerns was addressed by this last fri's news of AT&T acquiring Teleport, the largest of the clecs... AT&T will now have a foothold in the local phone market (the land of xdsl)... Teleport's strength is business customers... probably the prime (initial) market for xdsl... guess time will tell if they will look at orctf/fnc...

Overseas, lu is more than a little familiar with orckit... as you pointed out, the netherlands being "exhibit a"...

earlier in the year was working on trying to sort out various (macro) alliances and ran into references for "far-reaching international agreements" between AT&T, Stet/Telecom Italia and Unisource. Unisource is made up of (at least) Telia of Sweden, PTT Telecom of the Netherlands and Swiss PTT Telecom...

It just so happens that individually these companies are all (probably) currently trialing orctf adsl... except, interestingly ... AT&T (tho we now know lu is involved with at least one)... might bear watching....

best wishes
