Tom,

I am reading TA from A to Z and purchase Oneil's book as well. Any general rules to applied in doing testing?

Great start in reading.

Any general rules to applied in doing testing?

1. Fully understand what the indicator does!!! How it works to accomplish the signal.

2. Your testing should be checked against vering dates with vering timeframes. Andy's and Brooke web sites can help see some of those timeframes. This give a more uniform analysis of the indicator or system.

3. Your dollar value plus or minus should be rated by percentages rather than points, (there is more meaning in percent. Points can misslead.)

4. When you analize, your developing your mindset, ie time in trades. What is right for you? What are you comfortable with? Is the time frame your testing reflected? How did the indicator compare to the last one or the one before that? Has the market changed to make the indicator develop different signals?

This will help you build the confidance in the indicator(s) of your choice system. I can't stress the importance of making the system and the confidence developed yours based on your testing. Reliance on your work is the only thing that will keep you in a trade when your emotions say get out.

What should I be tracking for my results to tell me that I am on the right track?

What are your percentages showing you? This is the true backbone of any indicator or system.

I hope those with more experiance than I, (I've only been at this a little over a year,) will step in and correct or add to what I've written.
