What do you figure people do in locales on the globe where AOL doesn't exist? They take 10 minutes to figure out what "Internet access" is, get an ISP based on a friend's recommendation, fire up a browser and get surfin'! What's AOL?

I have always laughed everytime I see one of those dumbass commercials with the guy who needs AOL "to improve his golf game, and do his banking online". Ha ha, who needs AOL for that? And amazingly, that little voice that says "You've got mail" is not exclusive to AOL! You can receive e-mail with any internet provider...heck, even if you don't have net access you can get a mail account with Mailexcite, Hotmail, geocities, etc. etc. and check it weekly at the Internet cafe or at your brother's house, all you need is a browser!

If people can get better service elsewhere, they will eventually figure this out, and cut the ol' AOL umbilical cord. Speed IS the issue, someday cable/ADSL/satellite will catch fire. Where is AOL then?
