This distinction is artificial. <<<

Rubbish. Sorry, but I wonder if you have ever developed, created, invented, or discovered anything new. Putting bells and whistles on IE is hardly in the same category, for instance, as inventing the GUI or inventing hypermedia browsing. Or even a twentieth part of hypermedia browsing.

>>> All inventions are based on the previous work of others to some degree. <<<

All life one earth is most likely descended from some single celled life form, or more than one. But the degree of difference of the descendants is of some importance to us.

A test for you: Name Microsoft's most important invention. Bet you can't do it without getting laughed out of here.

Chaz

Alan,

"This distinction is artificial. All inventions are based on the previous work of others to some degree. Innovation involves delivering on new ideas, not just expressing them. Notice the key word in "build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door" is build, not imagine. "

I believe the key word is "better" not "build". In reality, it is more like "Market a mouse-trap better than you can build one and the world will beat a path to your windows."

Take it easy,

Norm
