Alan, "This distinction is artificial. All inventions are based on the previous work of others to some degree. Innovation involves delivering on new ideas, not just expressing them. Notice the key word in "build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door" is build, not imagine. " I believe the key word is "better" not "build".
