Joe,

than they have to pay higher prices for the chips

No Joe, the chip price is what they send to Intel.

The money that Intel sends them is for running commercials using the Intel Inside thing. This is not "their money". It is Intel's money until Intel pays it to them. Intel is getting something for their money if they run the commercials.

Joe - THEY DON'T HAVE TO RUN THE COMMERCIALS UNLESS THEY CHOOSE TO.

But...if they don't run them, they don't get the money - and take the chance that consumers won't notice.

Get it?

Barry

Nope. They just won't get any income from the stamp sized
advertising space on their boxes from Intel.

This also makes it easy for the customers of the boxmakers
to see they are getting the genuine stuff at a glance without
having to dig into the specs.

Shahen.
