The talking point originated with Trump ... HE linked the firing to the Russia investigation. Notice a pattern in the Comey firing and the Russia classified intel revelation: First people were sent out to deny the story - that the firing was related to the Russia investigation, that Trump revealed classified intel to Russians in the Oval Office. THEN, Trump explicitly admits what his people had been ordered to deny. He did fire Comey because the Russia investigation was "made up" and he did reveal info to Russia and he has the right to do so.
