Compaq lowers the bar and HP raises the bar. I guess it depends on which direction you are headed. <g>

But you are one broken record when it comes to discussing HP. HP isn't a computer business it's a portfolio of businesses and all I care is that the portfolio wins. If selling sub-1K PC's at a loss means you expand your high end then so be it.

But I don't think that's the case either. HP certainly *can* make a profit on these machines just as they do with printers. All I have to do to prove it to you is take a printer line and refit it to build PC's. I know that they would not be in the business if they felt it would generate a loss. Get real!

You reiterate the same two things ad nausium. Too many people and poor order processing software. Well CPQ's business model is not the only model that works. You take the bulk of the people and put them on high profit products and let your low end run lean and mean. Then you manage the mix.

But just so you know, I'm long CPQ and HP both. So why should I care who gets the biggest market share? Together they dominate PC's.

My proof will come next month.
