Virtual Machines and Same Windows License. . .

Virtual Machine software communicates with your hardware through the underlying operating system and presents its own (Emulated) hardware layer to whatever operating system you install on the various Virtual Machines you're running; hence, your "Same" software will think it's running on "Different" hardware. Windows doesn't like this!

When Windows 7 was introduced, Microsoft made a Windows XP available that was licensed for their Virtual Machine's environment, called "XP Mode." Since this was essentially a "New" Windows XP installation, users were required to re-install their XP software.

Perhaps a more convenient solution would be running multiple operating systems on the same hardware. Doing this would eliminate the painful process of adapting a new copy of XP to your needs -- although it would make switching from using software on one system to another a pain, as re-booting would be necessary.

Cheers, PW.
