Company Press Release

MGI Software Highlights Digital Imaging Solutions at Consumer
Electronics Show with Partners Sanyo and Canon

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1998--MGI Software Corp.(TSE:MGI. - news) MGI Software Corp.
will be showcasing its leading PC Photography and Video Publishing software today at the world's largest annual
trade show for the broad-based consumer electronics market, the 1998 International Consumer Electronics Show
(CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 8-11. MGI will be demonstrating its award winning products, MGI
PhotoSuite and MGI VideoWave, which have helped shape the mass market for photo and video software, at OEM
partner booths Sanyo Fisher (Booth #900) and Canon (Booth #947). Both booths are located in the Digital Imaging
Pavilion, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

''The fact that the Digital Imaging Pavilion has doubled its original size is a reflection of a market that is experiencing
tremendous growth,'' says Anthony DeCristofaro, president and CEO, MGI Software. ''Analysts agree that current
technology, and innovations just around the corner, will ensure its continued growth. MGI Software's ability to
actively support and embrace these advances enables us to deliver comprehensive software solutions and secure a
position as the leading choice for consumers and OEM partners.''

MGI will demonstrate a preview version of its video publishing software, MGI VideoWave, designed to support
Digital Video (DV) cameras through an IEEE1394 connection. Commonly referred to as FireWire, 1394 is a
high-speed standard interface for connecting any consumer electronics device to a personal computer. Working from
the computer in MGI VideoWave DV, the user can control the various shuttle commands of their DV camera to
Play, Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind and quickly and easily Capture selected video segments into the PC for editing.

Since its release in early May of this year, MGI VideoWave has earned two Editors' Choice awards from PC
Magazine and was cited by PC Magazine as one of the best products of 1997. In addition PC Graphics & Video
Magazine named MGI VideoWave as one of the 50 most important new multimedia products introduced in 1997.
The product also received a Windows Recommended listing in Windows Magazine, and awards from leading
international PC publications. The software turns your computer into a personal video studio, by letting you quickly
and easily capture, edit and produce videos on your PC. Aimed at the non-technical, general business and home
user, MGI VideoWave takes a new approach to video production by eliminating the traditional timeline interface
used by other products.

MGI also will be demonstrating MGI PhotoSuite, the award winning product that has successfully shipped over 9.5
million units worldwide. During the past two years, MGI has consistently led retail and OEM sales with MGI
PhotoSuite. MGI PhotoSuite has been recognized by mainstream photo publications as a great software package for
enthusiasts wishing to explore PC Photography. MGI Software received Editor's Choice Awards in both the
December issue of Familyphoto and in a special Digital Photo supplement in the November issue of Petersen's
PHOTOgraphic. In June, Windows Magazine, the leading computer publication covering Windows applications,
recognized MGI PhotoSuite among the top 100 Windows programs introduced in 1996 with a WIN 100 Award.

MGI Software is currently working on its next generation of PC Photography software, MGI PhotoSuite II. Due out
shortly, it is the complete PC Photography solution, which is built from the ground up around new technology
embracing the Internet at its core. It begins with a new approach to user interface design that provides the most
thorough step-by-step guided or interactive experience for capturing, organizing, transforming, printing pictures and
sharing them over the Internet. Packed with hundreds of new features and an extensive array of new tools typically
found only in professional-level applications or specialized programs, PhotoSuite II offers users countless hours of
entertainment, fascination, better productivity, and the ability to do more things ''to'' and ''with'' their photos. The
software delivers to home and business users the easiest to use and most comprehensive standard in PC Photography
software.

As well as being the leading choice for consumers, MGI Software also has maintained a leadership position as the
first choice in digital photography and video publishing for OEM partners. In September, Intel Corporation
[Nasdaq:INTC - news] acquired a minority stake in MGI Software to support the company's vision to develop and
offer PC photography and video publishing software on Intel-based computers. Both companies also have entered
into a related product and market development agreement to advance MGI's PC imaging, video editing and 3-D
graphics technologies. As a first step, Intel is now shipping a version of MGI VideoWave with its motherboards on a
worldwide basis.
