i would imagine that in the future, with austrian economics reigning, labor would become so efficient through automation, that its value would rise to the point one could live a year (or more) off 40 hours of labor.

The fear that technology/automation will replace your job isn't a new fear. All of our jobs are destined for the dustbin. If that weren't true we'd all be thinking of turning in early so we could get up and milk the cows before heading off to the fields instead of having this discussion.

People need work more than they need money. It really doesn't matter what the work is just that it is hard and it engages you.
