Thomas:

There is a lot of gaming between Clinton Administration and Japan with their CB's sandwiched. The US Adm likes the growth taking place here with low interest and benign inflation. But, the Fed is scared of the demand for US$ due to panic elsewhere and euphoria here; it is not normal; as indicated by Fed's ever increasing money supply growth to contain deflation and trade deficit. A sudden reversal in US$'s lustre is Greenspan's fear. But, the US Adm does not seem to care because, it is helping them politically. Gephardt and others are silenced on their criticism of ballooning trade deficit; these politicians have deep fears, but it seems they cannot articulate the fear in economic terms.
