I agree. Also, meritocracy must be a mutual goal for bonuses and title. That also applies to nepotism.

It is not uncommon in business for managers to attempt to optimize their own purviews when doing so is suboptimal for the entity as a whole. This, of course, gives rise to suboptimization.

In any substantial business these situations arise with some frequency. Not merely between employees and employers, but commonly between various departments and entities.

It falls on the lowest managerial unit with purview over competing interests to resolve the differences. When one entity is outside the organizational structure the entire process is different.
