Ram: Re; tool vendors with conversion service ..

Several. I'm a mainframe bigot, so I'll focus there.

CA, CPWR, PLAT, VIAS

If you had invested a few thousand in each of them a few years ago, you'd be retired now.

I meant tool vendors that also provide conversion service. Are there such firms? Another question is how tool vendors handle product liability? Ram

Product liability... now that's a good question. As we all know, in America it's always the other guy's fault. I'd wager car companies get sued every day by drivers alleging their cars were defective.

As we also know, a tool is only as good as the user. Put TEDennis into Jeff Gordon's car at Daytona and I doubt he even finishes the race (gg). That is why, in my opinion, that even though alliance partners vastly outnumber the "true" Y2K vendors, you rarely ever hear about one of them landing a deal of any consequence. In other words, just because I am using company XYZ's fully-automated silver- bullet tool means very little if I have no track record of which to speak.

So, yes, I agree that tool vendors that actually provide conversion services will be the ultimate winners in Y2K. And, yes, I think it is about time to recognize the importance of quality control in building up the necessary reputation to land the big fish-- something far more important, IMO, than the tool itself. Add both features together and you have a sure-fire winner like, well, like it says in my profile (gg).
