The trick is to crumple the ads into a wad before handing them out. They will then get read. I think this was the premise of a Seinfeld episode! YHOO now exhibits some nubile ladies in their banner ads.

I read in WSJ/Barron's that quoted research to show that web-users are interested in substance and rarely click on ads. Unlike printed media, these chickings can be documented by the ad sponsor to decide if the value of an ad is worth the ad cost.
