I agree with the premise on some things like cars, cell phones, and clothes!! no need to get new!

I have old cars with low mileage and feel no need to update and I am fine with a iPhone 5S w/64Gs.

What I have learned over the decades is most people will prioritize certain things in their lives.

Take cameras for example, even with the extensive use of cameras in your phone, there are many who can't live without the latest SLR digital camera. Or even more excessive are people who need tube based stereos or extreme bit levels for their audio files where other feel a standard Mp3 file is fine.

Going back to the days of Heathkit and Radioshack computers I have been a computer nerd and always wanted to try out the latest technology especially in computers.

I don't feel a need to always have the latest but enjoy experimenting and even being challenged figuring why the computer crashed or something doesn't work I love troubleshooting computers and over built a pretty large lesson learned storehouse of knowledge based primarily on stupid things I have done to my computers and learning the hard way. I prefer PCs but build Hackintosh machines for the challenge and to better understand the cult following Apple has I even up buying a MacPro a few models back and had it dual booting with Windows and Mac OS. But now I am settled into a mid-sized very quiet case with I7 32Gs and 500G SD primary drive and 4TB working drive
