OMG. They've gotten to you, too? You are now of the 97%

They haven't "gotten to" me. I've always been green, not religiously so, but green. My entire estate is destined for the Nature Conservatory. I have oodles of nature photography from the most gorgeous spots with the coolest critters all around the world. I'm retired from EPA, for heaven's sake. How could I be other than green?

I have not studied the science. I do not have the background to evaluate the science, myself. I don't know just how big the problem is. Maybe the most strident are overstating the problem; I'm skeptical of closed communities with elaborate models and raving zealots. But I am not an idiot and it's obvious that there's something serious going on there. My value system is such that the aforementioned "there" deserves our stewardship.

I'm not active in the movement. There's really nothing for me to do. I realized decades ago that we were wrecking our earth and that, human nature and politics and world dynamics being what they are, it couldn't be stopped. The displeasure I was expressing in the post to which you responded is that the zealots are focused on pulling out all the stops to avert the problem by universal abstemiousness and feeding the backlash. I think we should 1) be realistic and cost effective in our attempts at prevention and 2) devote more thought and energy to adaptation. We can't do the latter while the folks with the energy are tied up expending resources futilely trying to get resistant others to buy into their version of the problem and their version of the solution.
